Design for Manufacturing

Course Overview

Design for Manufacturing teaches general manufacturing techniques. Calculations and analysis tools are used to design and redesign student’s concepts. This course applies and integrates ideas that have been generated in other courses and generates life size models and prototypes. Industry standard software and machinery are used to manufacture student’s ideas with verification programs to determine the ability for a plan to be mass produced. Certification will advance students toward continuing education and career opportunities in the fields of engineering, design and machine operation. Before students begin this course they are administered a national 3rd party pre-course exam to determine their competency level. Throughout the entire course student assessment is administered to track student progress. Once the course is completed the students will take an post-course exam. The compilation of the captured student outcomes will validate student performance gains.

Course Length: up to full-year of project-based academic curriculum

UNITS: Culminates with MasterCAM Certification

Program Overview

Courses were developed by educators, industry partners and professionals to prepare students for career and education advancement. Courses are project-based and were designed for a full-academic year utilization. Curriculum is delivered via online Learning Management System based upon an industry standard software platform featuring classroom projects with a proven academic legacy. Through educator development curriculum features a mainline education approach focused on standard based foundations, gender awareness, socio-economic concerns and general learner needs. Student advancement is tracked by student profile system built into the LMS. Students develop a digital portfolio to include: grade, projects, certifications and university credit. Courses are available for both instructor lead and online program delivery environments. Online student enrollment via The CAD Academy Virtual Student portal. Student career and education advancement is our mission. Course Highlights include mapping to the following national standards: International Technology Education Association (ITEEA) , Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), National Science Teachers Association (NSTA), National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM); articulation with leading universities and student certification

Includes:

Learning Management System

Course is delivered via online Learning Management System (LMS) portal also referred to as Course Management System (CMS) or a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). The content and instructional objectives for each unit are written in operational terms that specify the exact skill that is measured. This electronic assessment system allows for scoring the assessment automatically and reporting that information to instructors and administration. Student outcomes are clearly documented showing what learners will know or be able to do as a result of each learning activity. Students can share their achievements and development online in a space controlled by the instructor to include weblog, resume builder and internal social networking system connecting users and creating online learner communities.

Software

SolidWorks 2010: The standard for 3D design. The undisputed industry standard for the only category worth of analysis: JOBS! SolidWorks is requested up to 20X more frequently than any other design software technology for mechanical engineering + design and manufacturing employment in the United States per Monster.com.

SolidWorks Sustainability: A complete dashboard of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) information so you can determine the environmental impact of assemblies. Search for comparable materials and see in real time how they affect environmental impact. Create detailed reports that explain a design’s sustainability.

Mastercam is the CAM industry standard. Mastercam for SolidWorks includes a suite of the most sought-after cutting strategies, including High Speed Machining (HSM) toolpaths. In addition, Mastercam for SolidWorks delivers a powerful set of automated toolpaths that get parts off the machine faster, with little or no handwork.
